Seasonal Taste Gorosaya

This is a highly recommended seafood restaurant in Shimoda called Gorosaya.

My wife and I were looking for a good seafood restaurant in Shimoda and wandering around restaurants that had average reviews on Google.

I'm the type of person who basically judges things by my own taste, so we headed in and, as we were looking at the storefront, a man who seemed to be the owner came out.

He looked a little tough, but he had a smile on his face and the store looked nice, so I asked if there was parking.

I was surprised that there were two young employees working in a small store despite the coronavirus, but it's reassuring to have young people working there! lol

The menu is mainly seafood, but I ordered the popular set meal "Sashimi and Kinme-ni Set Meal" and my wife ordered the standard "Seafood Bowl".

The prices are normal for a tourist spot, but a little on the expensive side for a normal lunch.

We went in as soon as the restaurant opened, so the food came out right away, but they said it would take a little while to prepare the boiled golden eye.

Maybe they do the finishing boiling after the order is placed?

But I couldn't get started because of the photo shoot… I had to put it on hold! Haha (This happens when you're doing an interview!)

I took a photo of my wife's seafood bowl, and while I was waiting, the boiled golden eye arrived, so I took a photo and started eating!

First of all, the sashimi was fresh and I was happy that the red meat was thickly sliced. I usually ask the staff what kind of fish it is, but it was starting to get a little busy so I didn't have a chance to ask.

The boiled red sea bream was unusually lightly seasoned. That's because many restaurants in Izu boil red sea bream in a sweet, thick sauce. On the contrary, you can taste the light flavor of the red sea bream.

And the ingredients in the miso soup were surprising: "turtle paws" and "barnacles." lol

It's delicious to eat, but it's also a great ingredient for soup stock. It's not a shellfish, but a crustacean like crabs.

It was very delicious!

My wife said her seafood bowl was also very delicious.

There were tourists and local regulars there, so I'm sure there are many repeat customers.
