Shirahama Shrine (Ikonahime Shrine) in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is the oldest shrine in Izu with a history of 2400 years. It is a power spot that brings good luck in matchmaking and love, and is also famous for being the place where singer Saijo Hideki held his wedding.
There is a sacred tree, a 2000-year-old Yakushi cypress.
The history of the shrine is as follows: "2400 years ago, the enshrined deity, Mishima Daimyojin, traveled north from the south on the Kuroshio Current with Kenme, Wakamiya, and Ken no Miko, and landed on Shirahama in Izu. The great god of Fuji gave him the land of Izu, and he welcomed Ikonahime from Shimogamo in southern Izu as his consort, settled in Shirahama, and later created the Izu Seven Islands."
If you head towards the beach from the right side of the grounds of Shirahama Shrine, you will see a torii gate on a rock, and you can enjoy a spectacular view of the sunrise.
